Irene provided an opportunity for many an idle thing, and I finally tried out Polyvore. For hours. I finally got to try and put together the Running on Empty birthday outfit I was so obsessed over. This is not quite right, but close enough for now. A very luxe version, ha.

Style Inspiration : Martha Plimpton in Running on Empty

Just watched Running on Empty and was totally inspired by Martha Plimpton's character. The back of this lace dress is so gorgeous. Those shots are even making me reconsider hemp necklaces (that probably won't last long).

Another favorite was her birthday party outfit (including the tinfoil crown!). I would like that exact outfit come this summer, actually.

And, a bonus - found this shot from the 1989 Oscars while doing an image search for the movie. Such a simple, elegant dress. And with the slicked back hair, it brings to mind the childlike empress from The Neverending Story (always a good thing, as far as I'm concerned).

Edward Hopper

I recently saw the Edward Hopper exhibit at the Whitney Museum with a friend who was in town on a visit, and fell in love. All that color and light and longing.

I highly recommend the Whitney in general, by the way - they have several great exhibits right now, and it was a perfectly sized museum as far as I am concerned. (I am one who tends to get overwhelmed and exhausted pretty rapidly in museums.)
